About
The Council of Seniors is a social policy program of Civic Council, a national nonprofit educational and advocacy organization. The Council conducts independent research on Social Security, taxation, and other seniors issues, then disseminates this information to policymakers, the media and citizens with the goal of improving the lives of all Americans.
We encourage all citizens to be informed about the issues, as well as where our elected officials stand, and to communicate with them regularly. To increase public awareness and participation in the policy making process, we monitor legislation, publish reports, carry out national petition drives and direct mail campaigns.
As an independent program, the Council of Seniors relies on private contributions from many individual donors across the country to fund its work. Because it is part of a 501(c)(4) organization that lobbies on behalf of its supporters, federal income tax deductions are not allowed for gifts to the Council. An executive director, appointed by the Civic Council’s board of directors, administers the Center’s operations and manages its projects.
